Presentation in english : This workshop is an opportunity for discussion and encounters between seemingly sealed academic fields around the topic of radio during the 20th Century, in global perspective. The emphasis is placed on processes of reappropriation from publics of broadcasts that were initially created to rely on their consent. We can observe converging dynamics accross the globe in that matter. However, the outcomes differ according to local contexts.
This workshop intends to be a platform for dicussion over methodological and conceptual approaches. While the concept of race is omnipresent in the United States, it can be absent in other area studies, where concepts such as community or nation are preferred.
The discussion will take place in the form of a roundtable to suggest the main results of international research over radio, community and power.

Présentation en français : Il s'agit d'observer les dynamiques qui traversent les entreprises radiophoniques à travers le monde au cours du second XXe siècle. La focale est placée sur la façon dont les publics tendent à redéfinir les projets initiaux des États ou des entrepreneurs privés. Nous observons des dynamiques convergentes en ce qui concerne la remise en cause du projet initial, mais les directions suivies sont ensuite divergentes et varient selon les contextes concernés. Cette rencontre est également l'occasion d'un dialogue épistémologique.
Il s'agit notamment de confronter les différents concepts utilisés selon les aires culturelles. La notion de "race" est ainsi omniprésente sur les terrains états-uniens tandis qu'on lui préfère celui de communauté ou de nation en contexte africain ou asiatique.
Le dialogue initiée, sous forme de table-ronde, permettra de décentrer le regard de chacun.e afin de dessiner les contours d'une dynamique de recherche internationale sur le rôle de la radio dans les logiques communautaires.
